How to Best Clean David Yurman Jewelry (without Pavé Settings)

Whenever you take your jewelry to a David Yurman boutique to have it cleaned, what you receive is a simple ultrasonic treatment. Your pieces are dipped in water and exposed to a high-frequency wave "bath" through which particulate matter is pulled away. Your jewelry comes back to you looking better but not like new. The approach detailed below, however, gets one markedly better results. Cheap, quick, and easy, this proven-effective treatment (of DYguy's own design) restores David Yurman jewelry to showcase form. Let's get started.

Dos & Don'ts
The following five-step process was designed for use on/with David Yurman jewelry whose base is primarily sterling silver. Do not complete this procedure on DY pieces with pavé-set gemstones, such as rubies, diamonds, or black diamonds. (Clean these pieces using this alternative system, specifically designed for product with pavé settings.) Designer jewelry should be treated with care and cleaned on a regular basis (i.e., once every month or two months, depending on frequency of wear). NEVER use harsh chemicals or silver cleaning solutions and/or dips on David Yurman product.

Materials
This treatment calls for the following items:
a kitchen bowl
everyday dishwashing liquid (such as Dawn)
a soft-bristled toothbrush (the cheapest available)
a linen dish towel or cloth
a sterling silver polishing cloth (Connoisseurs brand recommended)

Step 1: Soak piece(s) in warm, soapy bath
Posit a dollop of dishwashing liquid into a kitchen bowl, and fill the vessel with hot water. Submerge in this bath the DY piece(s) you wish to clean. Allow jewelry to soak for five to fifteen minutes, depending on dirtiness.

Step 2: Brush, submerge, brush, submerge
Remove piece(s) from the bath, and brush one side of piece(s) with soft-bristled toothbrush. Following this, submerge the piece(s) for a second or two in the bath, and then pull the piece(s) back out and brush a second surface. Repeat this process until all surfaces have been brushed.

Step 3: Rinse and dry
Hold piece(s) under running tap water. Shake off excess water and towel dry.

Step 4: Clean with light cloth
Using the light/white side of a silver polishing cloth, rub away the tarnish from the piece(s). Black or brown stains will form on the cloth. This is normal.

Step 5: Polish with darker cloth
Using the darker side of a silver polishing cloth (Connoisseurs' is pink), buff the piece(s) by gently rubbing the cloth over the metal. Following this, admire your newly-cleaned Yurman. Adorn with abandon.

Need a More Intensive Solution?
Prolonged exposure to salt or chlorine can deeply tarnish (or potentially start to patina) sterling silver, and so if you took your DY into the ocean or a hot tub with you, chances are the resulting aesthetic damage cannot be easily undone with this simple 5-step process. Fortunately, jewelers have at their disposal additional restorative deep-cleaning treatments that can be applied to astonishing ends. David Yurman only services pieces purchased directly, however, and so if you've acquired your DY jewelry elsewhere (say, through an authorized retailer), you must request service from that retailer. If you happened to buy from DY, simply get in touch with your nearest boutique or call 1-888-398-7626 to initiate a repair. (Either way, the service will likely be complimentary.)
